Debra Persons
The Hardcore Bitch
I am a middle aged stay-at-home mom with a degree in literature from O.D.U. who never got over my love for punk rock. As a lifelong resident of Tidewater, I have a love of and need for time by the ocean, as well as live music experiences. Grey, my husband and playmate of almost 30 years, couldn't agree more. You'll find us either in front of the stage or surfside....

James Persons
Hey there kiddos, I’m James Persons, the son of Grey and Debra Persons.
Growing up around my parents and all of their friends I have come to form a deep appreciation for all types of music (except country). I myself am a musician - I play the piano and I am the lead singer of the Norfolk School of Rock house band. I have been interested in starting to write for Hardcore Norfolk for awhile in hopes of bringing a fresher view on music. I now run "Mind The Gap" where I post new and interesting bands every week. Cheers and hope to see you around!

Digital folk artist, family man and bread merchant. Some of the best moments in my life are experiencing the power and influence of great art. I came up in the Norfolk era of the M80’s, Buttsteak, and Antic Hay.

Webmistress and music fan
I’m a web and graphic designer by day, and a frequent attendee of local band gigs by night. I’m happy to be able to support the local music scene by helping Deb run this site. I live in the Ghent area of Norfolk and love it for the sense of community and easy access to amazing local restaurants, venues, and shops. Maybe I’ll see you around town.

Hello Tidewater and World! I am native of Norfolk/VB, however I now call Alpharetta (topside of Atlanta), Georgia home. I grew up playing guitar (and some singing) in numerous bands from high school on for which a punishing amount of detail can be found somewhere in the archives 'round here. These days I am a dentist, cyclist (mostly mountain biking), half-assed graphic artist and I still occasionally pop up in some hair-brained music outings. I've probably forgotten seeing/playing with more bands than most will ever see and still find my way to shows despite my otherwise domestic milieu. Hit me up with questions, comments, hate mail and dirty pictures. Kisses!

I have been photo documenting the local punk scene since the early 1980's when I began shooting my friends’ bands and the scene around them when they played around the area. Decades later it's comforting to see many of the same faces still rocking out and inspiring new generations of artists to express themselves in a world that seems to have less tolerance for freedom of expression with each passing day. Check out my Facebook page Vintage North End Virginia Beach Illustrated History Archive if you are into local history!
